Choose camera settings from the light in front of you.

Light Meter is a photography aid for lux, EV, ISO, shutter, and aperture on Android and iPhone. Incident measures the light falling on the subject. Reflection measures light bouncing off the scene. No account. No ads.

How it works

Two ways to meter. Same exposure triangle.

Set the ISO you will use on the taking camera, then measure. The app solves shutter or aperture from the light it sees. Readings vary by phone — it is not a lab meter.

1

Incident

Measures light falling on the subject. On Android that is the ambient light sensor when the phone has one. On iPhone there is no public ambient-light API, so the app estimates from short stills on the front camera — aim at the subject or a gray card, not into the sun.

2

Reflection

Point the rear camera at what you will photograph and tap measure. The app reads ISO, shutter, and aperture from that still (EXIF), then shows lux and EV. Use this when you cannot stand in the subject’s light.

3

Copy or share

Copy reading puts the last exposure on the clipboard. Share sends a short message with a link to this page, the Play listing on Android, or the App Store listing on iPhone once it is live. Feedback opens mail to Highapps.

What’s in the app

Stops, compensation, and a camera you already have.

Metering math runs on the device. Internet is used for crash reports, analytics, and this page.

Lux and EV

See illuminance and exposure value after a measure. Incident and Reflection both show the pair.

ISO, T, and F

Pick stops in full, half, or third steps. Tv-first or Fv-first priority matches how you shoot.

Exposure compensation

Calibrate Incident in thirds of a stop when this phone reads brighter or darker than a meter you trust.

ND filter

Add glass stops on top of compensation when the taking lens has an ND on it.

Copy reading

One tap puts the last exposure on the clipboard. Nothing is uploaded to Highapps.

No ads

Be straight about it

A photography aid. Not a calibrated handheld meter.

Phone sensors and cameras differ. Angle, cover glass, and how still you hold the phone all move the number. Use exposure compensation if you need this device to match a meter you already trust.

Do not use Light Meter for legal, regulatory, scientific, or professional certification. For official exposure, use a calibrated meter.

  • No account No name, email, or sign-in. Open the app and measure.
  • Camera only when metering needs it Android Incident can use the light sensor without camera. iPhone Incident and Reflection on both platforms need camera. Stills are not saved to your gallery.
  • No ads The app does not show ads and does not collect an advertising ID.
  • Preferences stay on the phone Theme, stops, ND, and last exposure live in app storage until you uninstall.

Privacy & studio

Frames stay on the device. Summaries may go to Firebase.

Privacy policy

Camera stills and light-sensor samples are processed on the phone. Successful measures may send lux, EV, and stop values to Firebase Analytics. The full policy lists every category.
