Tint Meter estimates visible light transmission (VLT) from two readings — glass up, then glass down — and gives you a percentage, a tint level, and an accuracy range. On Android it reads the ambient light sensor. iPhone has no light sensor an app may read, so there it measures with the front camera.
How it works
The app compares light through the glass with light in the open. Keep the phone still, with the top edge toward the light — that is where the sensor sits on Android, and the front camera on iPhone.
Tap Fix value and, within three seconds, hold the top of the screen against the closed glass, facing the light. The display goes black while the sensor samples, then a signal tells you it is done.
Lower the window, keep the phone in the same place, and fix a second value. Same distance, same aim — that pairing is what turns two lux readings into VLT.
You get light transparency, tint level, and an accuracy band. Save it on the phone with a name such as “BMW — front left”, or share a branded card.

Each reading shows a percentage band, and says plainly when something limited it — too dark, the light shifted, or the sensor reported too little to judge steadiness.
If ambient light is too weak for a usable estimate, the app tells you to face a brighter source and try again.
Save readings locally with a title and window chips (front, rear, windshield). Review, share, or delete them later. Nothing is uploaded to Highapps.
Export a branded result image and a link to the app through your phone’s share sheet — WhatsApp, mail, or wherever you send it.
The measuring runs on the phone: an ambient light sensor on Android, camera frames read and discarded in memory on iPhone. Internet is used for ads, and on Android for crash reports, and for this policy page.
Be straight about it
Phone light sensors and cameras vary by device and placement. Lighting, angle, and how still you hold the phone all move the number. That honesty is the point — so you do not treat a pocket tool like a roadside instrument.
Do not use Tint Meter for legal, regulatory, law-enforcement, insurance, or professional certification. For official window-tint compliance, use a calibrated meter.
On Android it needs a working ambient light sensor. On iPhone it needs camera access, because there is no light sensor an app may read — the frames are read for brightness and discarded, and nothing is photographed or stored. Free on Google Play, supported by ads; the iPhone version is in testing.
Privacy & studio
Titles you save, VLT values, and share images are not sent to a Highapps server. Analytics and crash reports go to Firebase; ads go through AdMob. The full policy lists every category.
