What the app does
StopSpot is a parking convenience aid. A phone mounted in a garage uses its front camera to measure how far a car’s licence plate is from a stop point you set, and shows a green, yellow or red screen. It is not a safety device and does not prevent collisions.
Camera
The camera is used only while the app is open, to measure the position of a licence plate. Camera frames are processed in memory on the phone and then discarded. Video and photos are not recorded, not saved, not uploaded and not shared. The app does not read, store or send the text of licence plates. Video never leaves the phone.
Data stored on the phone
Only on the phone, in the app’s private storage:
- the stop point you set (distance and side offset, optional tape-measure correction)
- a tiny 32 × 24 brightness thumbnail of the scene, used to warn you if the phone was moved
- your settings (zone distances, plate size, how long red is held, screen flash, whether you accepted the notice)
- only if you turn on Developer options: a text log of the app’s measurements (numbers and states, no images, no plate text), kept on the phone and deleted with the app
Uninstalling the app deletes all of it.
What the app does not do
No account. No advertising. No analytics or tracking. No network connection: the app does not send or receive any data over the internet. On Android it does not request the internet permission. No data is shared with or sold to anyone.
Permissions
- Camera (Android and iOS): for the measurement described above.
The app does not request location, microphone, contacts, photos, or App Tracking Transparency.
Crash reports
The app contains no crash-reporting service. If you have enabled sharing of diagnostics with Apple or Google in your phone’s settings, the operating system may send crash reports to them under their own policies; we only see anonymous crash statistics in the developer consoles.
Children
StopSpot is not directed at children and collects no personal data from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date above and this page will be updated.
